Social Media Strategy, Messaging and Implementation

Project
Created and implemented social media strategy in support of issue campaign on behalf of a statewide energy association; developed website messaging and video scripts.

Background
A statewide trade association was supporting high-profile and controversial legislation in the state legislature.  The association had an outdated website, no communication or messaging around their issue and no social media presence. Understanding they would face highly-visible opposition they sought to correct these deficiencies.

Summary
Scott Barker took the lead in developing a social media strategy that focused on integrating Twitter and earned media outreach. In the two months of the campaign the Twitter outreach attained 67,000 impressions of the client’s message. Additionally, the social media monitoring Barker established helped the client understand not only how its message and activities were being perceived but also to gain insight into the activities of the issue opposition. Barker wrote all social media messages and prepared a weekly schedule of pro-active Tweets, as well as monitored social media activity and recommended responses when needed.

In addition to the social media campaign, Barker completely revamped the client’s website and developed an issue-specific microsite.

He consulted and wrote copy for print op-eds, issue brochures, and an infographic. He developed a video concept and script for web-based graphics and a video featuring consumers affected by the policy the client was proposing.
